It's not hard to get to by bus (in the vicinity of Main and 49th) and it's not a bad neighbourhood, contrary to what some people might say. Very much a family oriented residential area with a small concentration of shops and restaurants. Try All India Sweets for lunch (very good vegetarian buffet for under 10 bucks) and a huge selection of Indian candies and sweets. Himalaya, on the same block, has a good buffet as well, with great tandoori meat dishes. The Punjab Market grocery, on Main at 51st, has a good selection of Indian groceries and spices and some cool Indian cookware and sundries. There are several clothing stores with traditional fabrics, jewelery stores with all sorts of 22 carat gold jewelry, funky little boutiques, Indian video stores, etc. Not a huge area but worth a look. There are also areas of Surrey and North Delta that have a large concentration of Indian shops and restaurants, but the bus and Skytrain ride is a lot longer. If you're into south Indian food, there are a couple dosa restaurants at Kingsway and Fraser.

To get to Little India from downtown, the quickest route is to get on the Canada Line train, take the train to Langara & 49th, then jump on the '49 Metrotown Stn' bus (east) to Main Street, and you're there.
